A conversation with the writer, actor and teacher Bruce Graham (or as he as often been called, "Philadelphia's Favorite Playwright").
We talk with Bruce Graham - a son of Ridley Township in Delaware County who has been writing, teaching, and performing in Philadelphia since the 1980s.
Graham has written dozens of plays which have been produced everywhere from Los Angeles to London, as well as turning out scripts for Hollywood films, TV movies, sitcoms and soap operas - but he always returned to his hometown, and where his plays have been regularly staged by local theater companies, and appreciated by local audiences.
In fact, for many years Graham was regularly described by local arts reporters as "Philadelphia's Favorite Playwright."

Bruce Graham
Bruce Graham, a former suburban high school teacher and ex-standup comic, began his career as a playwright at the Philadelphia Festival Theatre for New Plays (PFT) in 1984 with "Burkie." Graham became playwright-in-residence at PFT and later served two years as Artistic Director. He has also written such plays as "Early One Evening at the Rainbow Bar and Grille," "Belmont Avenue Social Club" and "The Philly Fan"
He won the Rosenthal Prize for his play "Coyote On A Fence," two Barrymore Awards for "Something Intangible" and "Any Given Monday," and the Joseph Jefferson Award for "The Outgoing Tide." He has also written extensively for movies and television.
For many years a faculty member at Drexel University, Graham also has acted with many Philadelphia theater companies and has appeared as the Black Cat Husband in "Haunted Poe" (Brat Productions. 2009), Lenny in "Any Given Monday" (Act II Playhouse, 2010), Ben Hecht in "Moonlight and Magnolias" (Eagle Theater, 2019) - and in his own "The Philly Fan" (Hedgerow Theatre, 2023)
A longtime native of Delaware County, Graham and his wife now live in the South Philadelphia neighborhood of Pennsport. Or, as he puts it "I'm back living two blocks from where my grandmother was born, on Second and Tasker"
